Before Rite of the Dealer was created, we called the game "Signified". Signified was a rogue-lite deck builder where you use cards provided by companions on your journey through a mysterious estate filled with spirits and ghost-like enemies. In earlier stages of development, I was responsible for creating the backing for all the cards and helping with card layout and placement. This is a look into my design process for the cards. Each deck needed to match their individual companions, while still feeling like they mixed well when all shuffled together. - The gameplay was set to take place inside of an old journal and act as a kind of gateway for accessing the spiritual realm in this estate. - Ultimately the project ended up moving in a different direction and the work was never used, but from this game's ashes, Rite of the Dealer was born!
